Mountain canyoning in the massif of Mount Cinto, the ‘ceiling of Corsica’.
The beginning of the canyon, which starts at more than 1000m above sea level, is dwarfed by a mountain range including Monte Cinto which rises to 2605m. This region of Gnolo is the highest in Corsica, with snow for most of the winter around the Verghio pass. This rock and the surrounding cliffs provide an exceptional backdrop and a very special atmosphere to this canyoning route. This torrent of water is a tributary to the Gnolo, a river running along the bottom of this lonely valley in the middle of the Gnolo region. The road where we will rejoin our vehicle skirts the historic pastoral path of the Scala de Santa Regina. This path, which is several hundred years old, gives us the chance to retrace the history of this isolated area and small Corsican village, nowadays very quiet, which was once an inevitable point of passage for shepherds.
